What Is The Wall That Heals?

A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., that travels across the country. The exhibit honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. armed forces in the Vietnam War, and bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Presented by a locally organized 501(c)(3), in collaboration with veteran-run organizations and Cape Cod community volunteers, this is Massachusetts' only stop on the 2026 tour.

The exhibit includes a mobile Education Center open alongside The Wall, offering a somber, reflective environment for all ages. Open 24 hours a day, rain or shine.

Honor & Remembrance

The POW/MIA Missing Man Table

The table set for one — for those who cannot be with us. Each element carries meaning for the missing and prisoners of war. They are missing… Remember.

The Missing Man Table at the National POW/MIA Memorial Museum
POW/MIA Memorial Museum

The Missing Man Table is a place of honor found at many military ceremonies — a single table set for one, representing those who are absent: prisoners of war and those missing in action. Every item on the table is placed with purpose. Expand the section below to read the meaning behind each element.

  • The table is round — to show our everlasting concern for those still missing.
  • The chair is empty — they are not here.
  • The white cloth symbolizes the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call to arms.
  • The black napkin represents the sorrow for those still missing.
  • The single red rose reminds us of the lives of these Americans and their loved ones who keep the faith while seeking answers.
  • The yellow ribbon symbolizes our continued uncertainty, hope for their return, and a demand for proper accounting.
  • A slice of lemon reminds us of their bitter fate — captured or missing in a foreign land.
  • Grains of salt remind us of the countless tears of families who still long for answers.
  • An inverted glass symbolizes their inability to share a toast.
  • A lighted white candle reflects hope that our missing will return someday.
  • The Bible represents the strength gained through faith — one nation under God.
